WOOSTER, Ohio. - Amish Country United traveled to Triway High School on Saturday, June 4 to face off with Northern Ohio Soccer League South Division rivals Team Vulpine. Coming into the game, the Amish trailed the Foxes by one point in the division standings. The match ended 1-1.
Amish Country dominated play from kickoff but could not find the opener. Henry Perkins came closest with a shot that rattled off the crossbar. The Amish defended well and the game went into halftime scoreless at 0-0.
After the break, Team Vulpine found some rhythm and opened the scoring at the hour mark through Matt Falkenberg. Falkenberg drove toward goal from the right flank and finished with a powerful shot across goal. Trailing 1-0, ACU head coach Scott Bodiker made a few changes to try and get his team back into the game. Luckily, just a few minutes after Vulpine took the lead, a Perkins cross found Brandon Kozak right in front of goal. The ACU captain finished strongly into the net with a sharp volley and the game was back level at 1-1.
The Amish had several chances to score late in the match, but Team Vulpine goalkeeper Bryce Blair made several nice saves to keep the game at 1-1. The referee would blow for full time and ACU left Triway with an important road point. Wyatt Freeman made seven saves in goal for the Amish.
The Amish (1-1-2) are back in action next Saturday, June 11 as they host NOSL North Division leaders Mansfield Liederkranz (3-0-1) at Hiland High School in Berlin. Kickoff is set for 11:00 a.m.
