BERLIN, Ohio. - After only picking up two points out of a possible 12 in their last four matches, Amish Country United desperately needed three points on Wednesday evening, June 29 as they hosted Team Vulpine at Hiland. Three points for either team would vault them back up into a playoff spot in the heavily contested South Division, so both teams would be pushing for the win on the night.
The game started shakily for both teams as both knew how high the stakes were. After fifteen minutes, the Amish started controlling more of the ball and held the majority of possession. Eventually, ACU forward Jaden Boucher found the opener for the hosts. Collin Lowe played a beautiful long ball through to the onrushing Boucher, who calmly flicked it over Vulpine goalkeeper Bryce Blair to open the scoring.
Things would get testy for the Amish, however, when Team Vulpine forward Matt Falkenberg drove the ball to the end line and played a sharp ball across the six-yard box. Unfortunately, Isaac Troyer's momentum was carrying him toward goal and the defender had no time to react, turning the ball into his own goal. Despite the own goal, Troyer played an excellent game and was quick to leave the own-goal in the past.
The midfield duo of brothers Logan and Kaden Schrock linked up with Lowe and played beautifully together as Amish Country dominated the second half. Halfway through the second half, in-form Josh Ragon found the back of the net to continue his red-hot form and give the Amish a 2-1 advantage. Jaden Boucher would bag his second goal of the game to complete his brace and secure all three points for the hosts. Amish Country got the win they needed and will look to use the momentum in the final two matches of the season against Stark County United and Delaware Rising FC.
The Amish will be back in action on Saturday, July 2 as they host long-time rivals Stark County United at Hiland. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:00am.
