BERLIN, Ohio. - Amish Country United is excited to announce it will officially have a women's team starting in 2023. The team will compete in the newly-formed Women's Northern Ohio Soccer League, the women's version of the existing Northern Ohio Soccer League. Despite planning to have a women's team back in 2020, ACU had to press pause on the project due to the WNOSL also pausing plans due to the pandemic. However, the WNOSL is now set to start in May of 2023 and Amish Country United's planning for the team and season is well underway.
Chris Gertz will act as the women's team director and head coach and has already built out the main core of the Amish Country roster. Gertz is an assistant coach on Hiland High School's varsity girls team and a businessman in the local community. Like the men's team, the team Gertz is building is mostly comprised of local Holmes and Wayne County players and also features college talent.
Gertz is excited for the chance to grow the women's side of the game in the area. "I am excited to have the opportunity to help develop the Amish Country United girls soccer team and help the league itself grow," Gertz said. "I have coached soccer for the past 15 years at the youth, junior high, and junior varsity and varsity levels and I'm looking forward to coaching at the adult club level with ACU. I am grateful to continue to build the foundation of ACU with the girls soccer programs in our local area."
The team will play its home games at Hiland High School and will look forward to competing in the first season of the WNOSL.
