BERLIN, Ohio. - Amish Country United was back at home on Saturday, June 18 as they welcomed South Division leaders Greater Columbus FC to Hiland for their second meeting of the season. Amish Country traveled to Columbus on May 14 as they fell to GCFC 4-0 to start their NOSL season.
Things got off to a great start for the Amish as just four minutes in, Henry Perkins played Andy Miller in on goal with a clean through ball. Miller poked it by the onrushing goalkeeper to open the scoring in ACU's favor. However, just two minutes later, Greater Columbus' Devin Collins pounced on a loose ball and punished the hosts with the equalizing goal. Later on in the first half, the visitors took the lead when a miscommunication between Amish Country defenders led to an own goal. Just before the half, ACU won a free kick just outside Greater Columbus' penalty area. The ensuing free kick was whipped into the box by Brandon Kozak's left foot and subsequently headed off the crossbar by Braden Mast, meaning the hosts went into the half down 2-1.
Early on in the second half, Greater Columbus added to their lead through Jaie Pelletier to make it 3-1 in favor of the visitors from Columbus. Amish Country kept pushing to get themselves back into the game but nothing was going for the hosts. Then late in the game, Henry Perkins scored his second goal of the season to make it 3-2. Despite the goal, Greater Columbus held out until the final whistle to claim all three points.
ACU is back in action next Saturday, June 25 as the Amish travel to Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy to take on Ambassadors FC Ohio. Kickoff is set for 12:00pm.
